It’s Official: Dodgeball is a Hit!

What an epic weekend!! On Saturday at the Multiplex our amazing HHT Concierge, Kelly Vos, organized and hosted our first annual military appreciation dodgeball tournament.  Our goal was to show our appreciation for everything the Canadian Armed Forces does for our community and our country, and also to provide a fun-filled afternoon and a shot at some great prizes donated by our generous sponsors, Acasta HeliFlight Inc, Air Tindi and Copperhouse Eatery and Lounge. Well…mission accomplished!

Seven teams played three matches each (matches were best-of-five-games format), and the competition was fierce! After three hours of mad dashes, desperate dodges, clever feints and even the occasional Denis Savard spin-o-rama attack, team Ranger Danger came out on top and won a scenic helicopter tour of Yellowknife courtesy of Acasta HeliFlight. Second place and a floatplane tour donated by Air Tindi went to The Goonies. Third place and six $50 gift certificates to the Copperhouse went to the Globo Gym Purple-Headed Cobras, and six $25 gift certificates to the Woodyard went to the team with the best outfits, the Cobras (yes, there were two Cobra-themed teams – big fans of the movie Dodgeball). Honourable mention and gift cards to Tim Hortons went to the Dolls with Balls, the Knucklebusters, and the Belles of the Ball.

There were so many laughs at this event, and not a single injury, which is pretty amazing, all things considered.

Thanks so much to the participants for their spirit and for giving it 110% on the court. And a huge thanks to Kelly Vos for organizing the event. Can’t wait till next year!!

The Cobras, bearing their fangs. Winners in the “Best Outfits” category.

The Dolls with Balls – hard hitting and hard working from start to finish.

The Knucklebusters – quick moves and dark uniforms that make it hard for refs to see hits.

The Belles of the Ball – Style, strength and sore throwing shoulders. Also tied for second in voting for best outfits.
