This afternoon\u00a0CMHC\u00a0circulated an update to lenders\u00a0confirming that effective immediately it will once again insure mortgages in the Northlands neighbourhood. \u00a0CMHC withdrew its support for mortgages in the area way back on April 10, 2010, due to sewer and water infrastructure issues (see this CBC article<\/a>\u00a0with the\u00a0April 10th\u00a0announcement). \u00a0CMHC’s withdrawl led\u00a0to to a “hands off” stance at\u00a0the charter banks, effectively freezing sales in the neighbourhood\u00a0for almost five years.<\/p>\n

What does this mean for the Yellowknife housing market? \u00a0While it’s difficult\u00a0to predict the full impact, it should mean a lot more affordable housing units will be hitting the market this spring than we’ve been used to in years past. \u00a0258 homes in total were affected by the freeze.<\/p>\n
