Yesterday I discovered an interesting quirk in the City of Yellowknife’s property assessment system.\u00a0 If you own a house downtown and you use it purely for residential purposes, your land will be assessed at $95,000.\u00a0 But if you choose to operate a business out of your home, your assessment jumps up to $210,000.\u00a0 If you have purchased a home in the downtown area in the last seven years and you don’t currently have a business license attached to it, check your assessment.\u00a0 If it’s at $210,000, get in touch with the City.<\/p>\n
